An event area nestled among trees, like in a forest
This is an event plaza surrounded by trees, evoking the feeling of being in a forest. A large open space is created using unprocessed logs harvested directly from the forest, representing a new interpretation of what a forest can be. The timber used here will dry naturally during the Expo period, after which it will be processed and distributed as building material, eventually becoming part of another structure elsewhere. In addition, paper mulberry trees (kōzo) are being planted here. In the future, kōzo will become a wood-based resource for traditional Japanese washi paper, offering yet another form of architectural and decorative material. The base of the pavilion, made of bricks and clay, symbolizes the earth, roots, and Uzbekistan’s cultural legacy. The 8-meter-high wooden structure above it represents a forest and draws on the architectural styles of traditional temples and palaces. The materials used in the construction—wood, clay, and brick—are natural and rooted in Uzbek tradition, aligning with the principles of a circular economy through their reusability. The roof design incorporates 280 wooden beams, each traceable by visitors using their smartphones. Each beam is equipped with a tracker that reveals the origin of the timber. All the wood used is "sugi," a type of cypress native to Japan, and has been sourced from forests near Osaka.
