expertise, we will continue to take on new challenges and generate new proposals in wood and construction.
TOP MESSAGE
Since our founding in 1974, at Shinohara Shoten Co., Ltd. we have continued to conduct business with a sense of appreciation.
My predecessor Katsuo Shinohara established the organization from the ground up, and today we have grown into the five-company Shinohara Group. We would not be here today if it wasn't for the support of our customers and clients, and the hard work of our employees. I cannot thank you all enough.
In October 2017, I took on the role of President and CEO from my predecessor, and today we are united in our ambitions for the group.
After graduating from university, I trained in the wood trade in the US, before gaining experience in setting up businesses in Europe, China, and Russia. These experiences were invaluable, and the diversity of our wood suppliers today would not have been possible without these first-hand experiences from my youth.
Wood resources are not infinite. The important thing is to therefore engage in confident negotiations with lumber workers worldwide and to continue to securely procure high-quality and reasonable wood from them.
At the Shinohara Group, we promise to ensure stable supplies of wood for the Japanese wooden building industry.
In 2021, we formulated a new slogan—Target for the Future with Passion. Breaking New Ground.—and we are working as one based on this ambition.
Trees and people have been essential to the development of the Shinohara Group. To respond to the trust that customers have placed in us, we will strive to enhance and diversify our businesses.
Since ancient times, wood has been used as the structural framework for buildings around the world.
We will actively work to promote further wood improvements, wider applications, and increased utilization, and in doing so continue to contribute to society.

The Shinohara Group's Initiatives
for the SDGs
We are actively expanding our acceptance of overseas trainees, aiming to transfer our skills and techniques overseas while at the same time significantly helping them to build lifestyle foundations when they return home. These trainees are also helping to improve our business performance. Moreover, working with numerous wood suppliers inside and outside of Japan, we are contributing to popularizing wooden structures, including public facilities and special large buildings. We have also formed a contract agreement with a company that owns a local subsidiary in the Philippines at which local staff work as CAD operators. In doing so, we are working to vastly improve the CAD capabilities of the Group.
From the procurement of materials to the construction itself, wooden buildings have a low environmental impact, and can even store carbon for many years post-construction.
Moreover, by working on the precutting process for buildings made of wood, a natural material that stores carbon, we are making significant contributions to the mitigation of climate change impacts through the reduction of CO2 emissions.
Moreover, in addition to utilizing the excellent technological capabilities of CAD software, we have also installed special large-cross section processing machines to respond to customers increasingly diverse and sophisticated needs.
Today, more than 90% of wooden buildings are constructed using precut wood. Through the precutting of wood for public facilities such as schools and nursing homes, we play an important role in supporting social infrastructure and are contributing to the achievement of a sustainable society.
To contribute to the creation of wooden social infrastructure and support the citizens of both today and tomorrow, we will work to enhance our technological capabilities and fulfil our responsibility as a manufacturing company.
To contribute to sustainable forest management, the prevention of desertification, and the maintenance and management of water resources, we are actively working on the early acquisition of various Forest certifications.
Moreover, by precutting wood for wooden buildings, which make effective use of forest resources, we are enhancing the value of forests as natural capital and contributing to the creation of a sustainable society.
Further, instead of disposing of the offcuts and sawdust from the precutting process, as part of our recycling initiatives, we ensure they are reused as furniture material or as litter for cowsheds. In promoting the effective use of resources we are contributing to the creation of a sound material-cycle society.
